Irish Gambling Control bill updates

Yesterday, the wheels started turning once again on the Irish government’s efforts to update the 2013 Gambling Control Bill, which has been mired in delays since its approval five years ago. Much has changed in the gambling world since then, particularly online and in social gaming, as well as the scale of promotion through social media campaigns online and throughout the 먹튀검증.

The man tasked with getting this done is one David Stanton, Minister of State for Equality, Immigration and Integration. He briefed the Cabinet on the 10th January and requested approval to draft a new scheme of the Gambling Control Bill. He has himself previously proposed over twenty amendments to the bill, but must proceed with updating it fully before these can be dealt with.

The original bill called for a gambling regulator to act as part of the Department of Justice. The big news today is that an independent authority will be set up as a regulatory body, which will be tasked with monitoring and overseeing numerous aspects of the gambling industry within Ireland, in particular youth concerns, social responsibility initiatives, advertising & sponsorship, and the protection of those vulnerable to addiction or exploitation. The full licensing process will also be reviewed.

Updates to the bill are expected to tackle the gaming machine laws, as well as provide stronger regulation of online gambling. Diverse parties have been calling for action on this bill, including the opposition party, bookmakers and addiction treatment initiatives.

This is the first real reform in Ireland’s gambling laws for over half a century. Stanton has told the country this is a major priority, so we it may be that we finally start to see some significant action on this long overdue matter.
